Character Background:
Chiro grew up in the town of Pahrump near between Death Valley and New Vegas, California. He was probably born somewhere nearby since he had been dropped on the steps of the local orphanage, the Clark Hall, when he was but a few days old. Around the same time the wreckage of a caravan sacked by raiders had been found on a path near the settlement, so he may had been a survivor of that ambush, though it is unclear how and by whom he was brought to the orphanage.
He spent his young years in the orphanage, due to his quite obvious mutations and rather shy nature not being the most popular of kids, though he befriended, or, rather, was befriended after a few years by a young boy who was taken into the orphanage from the streets, Case. With his determination to befriend and protect the bat, they grew to be best friends. They were a troublesome pair, always trying to escape chores and the confines of the orphanage and playing pranks on whoever they could, getting into heaps of trouble.
The orphanage itself wasn’t a nice place, quite the opposite, actually, with the warden exercising very strict discipline on the children and holding them in constant fear, exploiting them to work for her and sometimes for the various gangs. And some were even sold to eager buyers. Chiro and Case always tried to look as unappealing as possible and meld with the background to avoid being sold, but one day it didn’t work and Case was sold. Chiro was crushed.
Case had planned to join a gang in he’d heard of in Pahrump, the Freaks, consisting mostly of mutants and other “freakish” individuals. Chiro latched onto that idea and eventually escaped the orphanage, aided by the fact that with age his wings grew enough to allow him flight and that no one really wanted a freak like him.
With no lead as to Case’s location, Chiro approached the Freaks and ended up joining them. He spent the next few years as their member, gaining new skills and abilities and climbing the gang ladder until he was the second in command. He relished the opportunity to learn how to shoot a gun and grew quite adept at it, among other “special” skills. He stayed away from drugs, though, after discovering that they had a particularly strong effect on him.
At some point the warden of Clark Hall, one Elissa Clark, met an “unfortunate” death, much to the joy of the children living there. Her duties were taken over by her assistant, who beforehand had no say on how the children were treated and suffered in silence.
After several years of building up his position and looking for any trails of where Case had ended up, he finally got a break. One of the gang’s informants told him that there was a boy named Case owned by a mysterious black-suited man going by the name of Weiss. They had left towards Reno years ago.
